"Open fires and a book-
(Dickens, Milton and Scott).
Old friends she ne'er forsook
In trials that fell to their lot.
Birds and bees and flowers,
Music and laughter and song,
Children romping thru golden hours,
Simple joys that to you belong.
A child's faith in her Maker-
Unshaken, steadfast, secure;
No false doctrines could tempt her
Nor held the slightest allure."
Sally Leach Pippen
This was written by my grandmother for Ellen Douglas Moore Leach, the daughter of Bartholomew Figures Moore, The "Father of The (NC) Bar." EDML married my great grandfather John Pelopidus Leach ( http://www.namsouth.com/viewtopic.php?t=43&highlight=fort+stedman ) after the War. I have a picture of her, (After the War) evidently dressed in her finest. The picture clearly shows a tattered bow and a dress of the most threadbare and humble origin. |
